Boga Bake-Off Winners: The beginning of a Jamie dynasty

Another year, another Boga Bake-Off, another record set - 601 votes (beating last year's 512)!
Thanks to everyone for voting and participating in our favorite family tradition.

2016 was a year filled with political headlines, and the cookie entries and eventual winner reflected this trend.  First place goes to Jamie, for the second year in a row, for Nasty Women #pantsuitnation commanding 95 votes.  Her big plan was to post on the Facebook Group by the same name, get the cookie 10,000 votes and a one way trip to the Today Show after the Boga Bake-Off went viral...but alas the administrators never approved her post.  But the people appreciated her work nonetheless, beginning what could become a cookie dynasty if she three-peats next year.

Jamie also won second place for LEMONADE, a tribute to Beyonce's album and her Beyhive (can you hear her smiling?).  Though LEMONADE didn't resonate with the older crowd, some people voted for the cookie not knowing the reference - reflecting the excellent cookie artistry present in the design.  LEMONADE received an impressive 87 votes, and actually held first place during the first day of voting.

Third place goes to Nancy for Bogas Join the Resistance with 66 votes.  We must admit, the Bogas thought this cookie would be a first place contender - but it consistently trailed by 20 votes during the entire voting period.  Nancy is licking her wounds but is at least appreciative of ranking in the top three.

Noticeably absent from the top three, for perhaps the first time ever, is Robin.  It appears she overestimated the popularity of David Pumpkins (who is that?), and had hoped the Game of Thrones contingent would have shown up in stronger numbers.  The Bogas definitely appreciated the humor (and boobies) in the Mother of Dragons cookie.

Finally, thanks to the men for their contributions - Doug for his orange Trump Deplorable #1 cookie, and Patrick for Hamburger Helper (how cute!), RIP Prince, and Dec the Halls: Type 1 Diabetes Awareness cookie for his cousin Declan.

Vote for your TOP THREE cookies!

Welcome to the 2016 Boga Bake-Off!

Predictably, the 2016 contest showcased many politically themed cookies.  But you'll also find a collection of other pop culture memes and completely random designs.  And it wouldn't be a Boga Bake-Off without the Bogas-in-a franchise...and this year's promises to be a top contender.

So gather round with your friends and family, and get ready to VOTE!  Cookie images are included first below, followed by the poll.  Click images to enlarge.

Voting ends Monday, 12/26 at NOON EST.  SHARE with your friends and family, and thanks for voting :)

The Boga Bake-Off Winners: Jamie finally ends her dry spell!

Authored by Jamie

What a wonderful year for the Boga Bake-Off!  First, we received a record-breaking number of votes – 521!!! Thanks for your participation, enthusiasm, and social shares – this really is an amazing source of entertainment for us each and ever year ☺

Second, I WON!!! I finally won!!! For the first time since 2010, I took home the first place prize with “Netflix and Chill” which captured 104 votes (the first cookie to ever break 100 votes).  While I am ecstatic, I also have a confession…

I only found out what you kids REALLY meant last night, when Elizabeth Costa sent our group of girlfriends a video of her mom, Karen, explaining what SHE thought it meant:  “It’s a booty call when they’re too lazy to take you out.  They come over to your house and watch a Netflick (yes, she said Netflick), and then you get a booty call”.  Silly Karen, I thought.  So I showed Tim who confirmed she was basically right.  Wait, what?  It’s not literally Netflix and Chillin?!

So why make the cookie if I had no earthly idea what it was, you ask?  As is standard practice, the Bogas will source cookie ideas from friends and family leading up to the Boga Bake-Off.  And when this same Elizabeth Costa suggested “Netflix and Chill”, I thought oh cute, I can totally draw Tim and I on the couch peacefully enjoying an episode of Orange is the New Black.  #marriedtoolong

So yes, I feel old, BUT the cookie still reigned supreme as it appealed to the masses and regularly led by a margin of 20 votes the entire competition.  BOOM!

In second place, we have Robin’s “Love Wins” with 82 votes, which was the contest favorite coming out of our decorating session.  It was well executed, it was beautiful, it was poignant.  But apparently everyone preferred a cookie that alluded to hooking up more than a historic moment.  While second place is nothing to sneeze at, Robin had higher hopes to win a third year in a row to cement her dynasty.

The real race was for third place, with “Santa’s Sunday Funday” (Jamie) and “Trump the #Schlong” (Nancy) jockeying for position the entire duration of voting.  And in the final hours, “Go Fish” (Jamie) shot up to compete with them as well.  Nancy was dying.  This was her shot to place in the top three!  But in the end, “Santa’s Sunday Funday” won third place by TWO votes with 54 votes, with both “Trump the #Schlong” and “Go Fish” getting 52 votes each.  What a finish!!!

A few other honorable mentions and notes:

  • “Santa’s Sunday Funday” references the popular Swan float that was all the rage with celebs this past summer.  Apparently this was obscure ;)
  • The “Bogas in a-“ franchise placed in a respectable 6th place this year, getting the highest number of votes in recent years with 47.  For the first time in history, two non-Bogas (Tim and Patrick) made an appearance on the cookie.
  • “Make Love not Wall” was a valiant attempt at a 3D cookie by Robin.  We also have to give Patrick credit for the idea, but he was unable to make it to build it himself.
  • Tim’s cookie submission, “You Like That?”, stunned us with 21 votes.  You people will vote for anything with a Redskins reference ;)

Here are the complete rankings:

1.  Netflix and Chill (JAMIE) – 104 votes

2.  Love Wins (ROBIN) – 82 votes

3.  Santa's Sunday Funday (JAMIE) – 54 votes

T-5:  Go Fish (JAMIE) – 52 votes
T-5:  Trump the #Schlong (NANCY) – 52 votes

6.  Bogas at Bobbie's Wedding (NANCY) – 47 votes

7.  R.I.P. Cecil (ROBIN) – 44 votes
8.  Make Love not Wall (ROBIN) – 37 votes
9.  You Like That? (TIM) – 21 votes
10.  Christmas Octopus (JAMIE) – 13 votes
11.  The Force Awakens Santa (ROBIN) – 12 votes
12.  Think Snow (NANCY) – 3 votes

Happy holidays and see you next year!
Love,
The Bogas

Vote for your TOP THREE cookies!

Welcome to the Boga Bake-Off 2015!

This year we held the Boga Bake-Off at Jamie & Tim's house.  Mariah's "All I Want for Christmas" was playing, candles a-flickering, and most importantly, cookies a-baking.  Jamie & Robin combined forces with cookie decorations from each of their collections, and got to work creating no fewer than 8 custom color frostings.  As decorating started, it emerged pretty quickly that the focus this year would be on pop culture and politics, but some old standbys like Bogas, intricate designs, and winter themes still made an appearance.

Enlarged images are included first below, followed by the poll to vote.

Voting ends Saturday, 12/26 at NOON EST. We'll reveal the winners on Saturday! Thanks for voting :)
